alpha Kappa Delta Phi's national philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness. As women, we feel that this is a significant issue that needs to be addressed in the community. Each year, we perform service projects dedicated towards promoting Breast Cancer Awareness.
This year, more than 211,300 women in the United States will learn for the first time that they have breast cancer, and more than 39,800 women will lose their lives. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women in America; however, early detection and prompt treatment can significantly reduce the suffering and deaths caused by this disease. alpha Kappa Delta Phi, the largest nationwide Asian-American interest sorority, proudly promotes our National Philanthropy - Breast Cancer Awareness, a project which is dedicated to increasing public knowledge about the early detection of breast cancer.
In 1998, alpha Kappa Delta Phi launched its first-ever National Service project. Through our 22 chapter effort, we dedicated the year of 1998-99 to Breast Cancer Awareness by educating ourselves, our college campuses, and our communities. Since then, SJSU KDPhi have participated in the Race for the Cure breast cancer awareness walk, hosted informational booths on Breast Cancer Awareness Day to pass out pink ribbons so that we can educate our campus and the community, and raised money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation by hosting our annual talent showcase, CHOICES, each year.
The mission of alpha Kappa Delta Phi's Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is three-fold:
To raise funds on a national level to contribute to a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating breast cancer through the sale of the popular Pink Ribbon pins.
To dedicate at least one Service Event per chapter/colony to Breast Cancer Awareness in October of each year.
To develope a comprehensive page on our national website that provides links to breast cancer resources.

In addition to Breast Cancer Awareness, SJSU KDPhi is also dedicate to many other philanthropy and community service events at the school and in the community. In the past year, SJSU KDPhi have participated in several canned food drives, held CHOICES to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and organized Project Oasis to raise money for the Tsunami Relief Fund.
